THURSDAY THINGS.

Today’s Thing: G-Eazy (Musician)

Okay, I’ll come clean. I am not was not a huge hip hop or R&B fan. I knew my basics (Snoop Dogg, Pharrell, everyone who gets regular radio play), and I absolutely love Jimmy Fallon and JT’s History of Rap. But I was never an aficionado. Like if hip hop was a person that I knew and I saw them at a party, I would say hi and slowly back away, scanning the room for one of my friends. It would be that awkward. But hey I’m not an anti-popular, weird hipster chick with (self-proclaimed) great taste in music. I’ve always gone by the principle that I like what I like, regardless of genre or top chart success.

It was the prodigious WG 1 who converted me. I have moved from the sidelines of merely appreciating the urban sound to loving it and actually looking for more. She’s a huge hip hop fan wrapped in hipster indie music/corporate girl camouflage. To say that I was very much deceived would be an understatement. She’s a hard core choir girl but can rap the first stanza of Nicki Minaj’s Superbass. She then proceeded to educate me in the form of a well-curated Spotify playlist (ask her for the link). It has since now been turned into a collaborative playlist (a sign of my success as WG 1’s musical protégé).

While looking for more quality hip hop music to power me through Monday, I found G-Eazy’s “Let’s Get Lost” in the magical land of Spotify. The usual stalker search of his Youtube page and Wikipedia profile immediately followed. Aside from being easy on the eyes, G (as his friends and, we, stalkers fans fondly call him), is quite the smart rapper. His degree, Music Industry Studies from Loyola University New Orleans, shows his commitment to produce the perfect melodies to match his lyrics. He shines most in pieces that reflect his growth as an artist, from a kid recording in his mom’s house to touring with his rapper idols.

I’m done fangirling. Time to let the music speak for itself. Below are some of my favorites from his music videos. Did I forget to mention how they’re so beautifully produced?

See you next week, homies! (Okay, that was weird. Hahaha)
