THURSDAY THINGS.

Today’s Thing: DIY All-Purpose Cleaning Spray

I know. You’re all like, “Did I just stumble into some weird DIY mommy blog? I thought this was for twenty-somethings and their transitional lives, yuppie problems, etc.” Well yes, dear you are not lost. Now to divulge even more personal details about me and WG 1, we’re both part of the workforce and we both live away from home. We’re what Ne-Yo sings about in that song (Miss Independent).

So this doesn’t mean all rainbows and fun nights out. This means we deal with a lot of house chores. For the lucky ones who have decided to live at home with their parents, I envy you I do. I never realized how many mundane little errands had to be done in order to maintain a healthy living environment. Although my mom can attest that I have not always been keen on keeping whatever sort of standard of cleanliness. She loves mentioning the state of my college dorm room as proof.

Before my incessant Googling and Internet use, my mom was my go-to expert for all things domestic. (I have a lot of moments that I regret living in a city alone without my free on-call cleaning expert.) These days, I have found a treasure trove of useful advice online from the millions of mom bloggers out there who do-it-all in picture perfect lighting. So in one of my weird Google searches I hit this jackpot.

DIY All-Purpose Cleaning Spray
Combine all the ingredients below in a bottle spray.

1 part                   water
1 part                   white vinegar (preferably distilled)
1 tablespoon      dishwashing liquid
8-10 drops          essential oil (optional)

Yes, I am in fact your fairy godmother. And no I do not have a ballgown for you. GIF Source: rewards4mom.com
This magical cleaning solution has saved me the time and effort it takes to deal with my mortal enemy -- DUST.  The kind of dust in my area is dark black and sticky (due to unknown reasons). And the vinegar in this spray helps get it off surfaces. I just spray and wipe. This is magic that’s way better than Wingardium Leviosa. So here’s my sales pitch, this solution is food safe and economical. You don’t have to worry if whatever chemicals you’ve been spraying around the house is getting into your system. (I see you there, drop that Lysol.)

In my quest to spread the good news, I shared this gem with my lovely friend WG 1. When I was crashing in her condo, I was feeling a bit ‘cleaning lady’ crazy. (I know I got it from my mom.) Her confused face was one that I also had when I read about this miracle in a bottle. I told her to trust me. She did and, in return, I got a text message filled with awe, joy, capital letters and exclamation points.

Go practice making this potion, and I’ll see you next week. I’ll be inspecting those counters with a white glove.
