Today's Things: Vanity & Skin Protection
A lot has been happening in our lives recently and there are times when I lose track of what day it is. In sum, there have been a myriad of beginnings and endings for both me and WG 1. (Ohh intriguing.) Anyway, this week we shall delve into one of my random helpful life tips. (The last one was cleaning related.)
One of the highly unrealistic expectations from women (or
girls) is *caring
too much* about their physical appearance.
(Subtopics include: make up, clothes, shopping) Now as I have repeatedly told
my mother, I am a girl despite not being keen on masquerading around like a
Barbie. I do respect people who have a genuine respect for people who treat
their physical selves as a canvas for their internal voice.
So today’s tip will also be a surprise because it does
entail a bit of vanity. I am here to proclaim the many benefits of skin care,
specifically the use of sunblock.
After telling a friend that I religiously use sun protection, he knowingly said, “But isn’t that just for the beach?” I am using all of my strength to not be snarky at this point. I’m weak. I retaliate with, “So apparently the sun is only out when you’re on vacation?” Guys, as it just happens we’re lucky enough that the sun won’t be dying in our lifetime. So yes, sunblock everyday even on cloudy days.
On the superficial side, yay no wrinkles. On the serious
side, yay no skin cancer.

Now cue the chorus of “what every day, I don’t even
moisturize daily.” (That is another problem to be discussed at another time.)
Yes, even if every fiber of your being is nooo
I am too lazy. I was that lazy person, friends. And I know exactly how that
feels. It took a while before I stuck to my daily routine. If you take a bath
daily, you can put on some sunblock after. Numerous articles have cited that a
shot glass full is the right amount to slather over your precious skin.
I do know that this advice can fall on deaf ears. WG 1’s
running post has yet to have an actual effect on my (non-existent) workout
regimen. But like my mother who is usually the source of all wisdom, at the end
of the day I just want to be able to say – I
told you so. :)
Okay, see you next week!!!
